Security Tip: Who You Gonna Call?

Submitted by TMCC Security Committee

It has happened to too many of us: Something happens to us or our property and we just don’t know who to call. Someone has broken into our car, taken all our wheels and tires, stolen our tailgate, removed the tools from the truck bed, stolen our mail, etc.

The Timbergrove Manor Civic Club Security Committee has tips for how to report an incident if it happens to you.

Contacting Houston Police:

Houston uses the crime reports as one means to determine how many officers to place on patrol in and around our neighborhood. Therefore we kindly ask that you report every crime you see no matter how big or small. So, how can you report?

9-1-1- is only for emergencies

Examples may include:

• A thief is in the act of stealing something or another crime is ongoing. Call 9-1-1!

• If someone is seriously injured, having a heart attack or a similar urgent medical issue and you can’t safely help them or get them to the emergency room. Call 9-1-1!

Non-Emergency HPD: 713-884-3131

This is used when you need to make a report about a Theft or Property Damage that has previously occurred and is under $5,000.

Examples may include:

• If coming home to a burglary which has previously occurred.

• Finding a burglary/theft of a motor vehicle incident in the morning but from the night prior.

Online Reporting

Similar to the non-emergency number, you can also make a crime report online about a theft or property damage under $5000 if the crime has previously occurred. For online reporting go to: https://www.houstontx.gov/ police/online_report.htm.

Other helpful things you can do online:

You can submit an online alert slip to report suspicious things like reporting a prowler, a speeding vehicle, excessive burglaries and thefts in an area, or even a vacation watch for your home.
