TMCC Easter Egg Social

Hop on over for a socially distanced Easter Egg celebration at W. 11th Street Park on Saturday, March 20, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Get your photos with the Easter Bunny and grab an Easter Egg goodie bag to go! Don’t forget the pets — we’ll have Easter goodies for good dogs too.

Our event is made possible this year by our neighbor and area realtor, Elizabeth McCormick of Compass Realty.

Volunteer Spotlight

We would like to give a big shout-out of thanks to some of our awesome TMCC volunteers.

Thank you to Jacki Schaefer for sharing her creative time and talents to create the one-of-a-kind TMCC “Volunteer of the Year” ornaments that were given to our award winners in 2020.

Another big thank-you goes to Matt Kern and Traci Riley who went out in the cold wind and rain during Winter Storm Uri and winterized the TMCC sprinkler backflows in our esplanades before the big freeze. This saved us from a potentially costly repair of the sprinkler system that the Civic Club maintains.

We appreciate you!

11th Street Bikeway Enters Design Phase

The City of Houston’s Planning & Development Department shared an update on the HoustonBikeways project in December 2020, providing new details about proposed changes to a corridor of 11th Street in the nearby Heights area.

The project is a 1.5-mile safety improvement project stretching from Shepherd to Michaux. Plans are currently at 30% of the design phase, which aims to reduce primary traffic lanes from four to two, and adds a center turn lane that also features pedestrian refuges islands. The reconfiguration aims to improve safety for people driving, biking, and walking in the Heights area.

“Road diets” such as these have proven to reduce pedestrian crashes by 56%. The project is currently open for public comment. Use the button below for more information about the design plans, view project maps, and submit comments.
