Houston Heights Women’s Club Kicks Off 2021

Through two World Wars, a couple of global pandemics, and enormous social change, the Houston Heights Woman’s Club has endured.  Not just endured, but strengthened in its outreach to the community. 

On September 1, the Club’s Heritage Group hosted its 120th annual Kickoff meeting.  Members enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new members.  President Rosina Chevalier welcomed all and presented a prodigious program of speakers, activities and community outreach projects for the coming year.

This year’s meeting was held at the Club’s historic clubhouse on Harvard.  Last year it was via Zoom, and during the great world wars when the clubhouse was turned over to the Red Cross, the ladies met at a nearby church.  Still going and growing every year. Not many organizations in Houston can claim such a long, uninterrupted history.

About the Club: The Houston Heights Woman’s Club (HHWC) was founded in 1900 as part of larger women’s club movements around the county. The club is committed to serving the local community – the greater Heights and surrounding areas, through outreach initiatives. The club strives to be fun and an inclusive place for all women.

There are two distinctive groups within the HHWC.

Heritage Group: In keeping with time honored tradition, members gather regularly for educational meetings and potluck/brown bag luncheons at our historic Clubhouse at 1846 Harvard. In addition, members participate in field trips, community service projects, and social events.

Evening Group: The Evening Group was created specifically for those who wish to participate with a more flexible schedule. Some notable social events include the legendary Witches’ Luncheon and the Victorian Tea. Community service projects include an annual School Uniform Drive and Women’s Studies Library Initiative.

Many women choose to join both groups, attending meetings and events as schedules permit.
