Security Update

Submitted by TMCC Security Committee

Arson:

A number of arson events occurred in the Heights, Timbergrove Manor and Lazybrook areas in early October. One suspect was charged and arrested on October 10. On October 16, around 3:30 a.m., arson investigators were back in the area tailing another suspect when investigator Lemuel Bruce was fatally shot. This occurred near our cherished HFD station 62, who responded within two minutes but were unable to save investigator Bruce. The suspected gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound one block away. Our thoughts go out to investigator Bruce’s wife, daughter, son, other family, friends and our fire fighters at station 62.

Citizen Patrol:

A group of our wonderful neighbors continues to donate their personal time to help deter and report suspected criminal activity around our homes. On average the patrol team is donating 15-20 hours per week of time. However, this leaves 148 hours of un-patrolled time. If you’ve been thinking of getting involved and are looking for a way to give back, consider becoming a CP. Patrollers set and adjust their own hours and do not intervene in any incidents. Instead the patrollers ensure a watchful presence and report suspected activity from the safety of their vehicles.

Reporting:

We want to thank those of you who have recently reported incidents or suspicious activity to HPD through one of the formal channels. As a reminder, HPD will not likely see incidents reported on social media sites. To help ensure suspicious activity is investigated, and to maintain an appropriate HPD patrol presence, we encourage formal reporting of all incidents or suspicious activity. This includes suspected gunshots, indecent/ lewd activity, vehicles that look out of place, etc.
