Re-Think Security Update

Submitted by TMCC Security Committee

Restart of HPD Citizen Patrol:

When Covid-19 tried to set the Citizen Patrol team back, they went virtual! Nearly 20 of our neighbors recently qualified, and virtually trained to patrol our neighborhood under the HPD Citizen Patrol program. In the first two weeks of the program this team has already logged over 40 hours and 25 patrols throughout sections 5-14!

The patrol team is awaiting magnets for the vehicles. Until then, do not be surprised if you see slower driving vehicles patrolling the neighborhood. If you are concerned with the presence of a suspicious vehicle, including a vehicle that may or may not be Citizen Patrol, we always encourage calling HPD. If it happens to be a Citizen Patroller, they will be able to justify their presence and as an added bonus meet a HPD officer.

Thank you patrol team for volunteering to keep a watchful eye over our neighborhood. Interested in joining the Citizen Patrol team?

Security Tips:

It’s easy to let our guards down, so we thought we would include some obvious reminders of ways to be a less-attractive target:

• Park in the driveway vs. the street to signal your presence
• Lock doors and windows
• Install 3” long screws on your door hinges and latches
• Do not open, but do respond, to knocks
• Leave a TV or radio on when away
• Prune tall shrubs that conceal windows/doors
• PLAN (Porch Lights At Night)
• Change up your away routines
• Use security cameras (see our recent article from July)
• Get, and use, an alarm
• Hide valuables in creative spots
