Notes from Your Membership Chair

Submitted by Laura Bradham, Membership Chair

Since I’ve spent the last few Timbergrams helping you understand that your dues go directly back into the neighborhood when you pay them (you can see previous articles online at timbergrove.org), I thought I'd try to answer another question you might have about membership in Timbergrove Manor Civic Club.

What exactly does TMCC do?

TMCC exists to facilitate the neighborhood in several ways. One very important way TMCC facilitates the neighborhood is by enforcing Deed Restrictions. Because Timbergrove Manor is a deed restricted community, residents planning an exterior renovation, addition, or construction of a new residence should submit plans to the Design Review Committee prior to permitting. You can review the deed restrictions for the section where your property is located on timbergrove.org. Becoming a Member of TMCC allows you to voice your concerns about Deed Restrictions.

When you drive down any given street in Timbergrove Manor, you can feel the zen in neatly placed homes, sidewalks, and welcoming trees. This did not happen accidentally. When Timbergrove Manor was founded, Deed Restrictions were set up for each individual section of the neighborhood. TMCC encompasses Sections 5 – 14 of Timbergrove Manor. If you live in Section 6, like I do, you will notice that there are no 2 story homes in our section. That's because our section only allows for 1 story homes. What it means to me is that I won't be “crowded out” by large 3-4 story condos on either side of me, like you might see when you drive through some other neighborhoods surrounding ours. It means that the sense of zen of the houses all being set back from the street the same, and being sized on similarly sized lots will stay the same. Being a Member of TMCC gives you a say in this process.

Our Deed Restriction Committee is run by volunteers, like the rest of our neighborhood committees. If you are concerned about someone renovating or building near you, or would like to know if your upcoming plans will fit with the Deed Restrictions already in place, contact the Deed Restriction Committee. Please include your address and contact information, as well as your concerns or exterior elevations, and full permit set with your submission. Please allow up to 30 days to receive a response to your submission.

Call for Membership Chair Volunteer

Are you interested in getting involved with the TMCC? We are looking for a new Membership Committee Chair to spearhead recruitment efforts. The Membership Committee organizes our January membership drive, and may also plan additional solicitation events and mixers throughout the year. The overall time commitment averages about one hour per week, with peak activity in January. Our current Chair, Laura Bradham, will offer training to make the transition as seamless as possible.
