Security Committee Launches New Safety Initiative

Turn on your porch light to help create a safer and more secure neighborhood. Lighting is a proven effective deterrent to criminal activity. It increases the feeling of surveillance and perception that people are watching.

Join the Porch Lights at Night(#PLAN) campaign: turn your porch lights ON nightly from dusk to dawn, and encourage those on your block to do the same.

Benefits & Tips

  • It reduces the opportunity for criminal activity and inappropriate street behavior.

  • It creates a lived-in and welcoming appearance to your home and increases the perception of safety to residents and visitors.

  • To conserve energy and reduce costs, use energy efficient bulbs.

  • Put a note near your light switch to remind you to turn the lights on at dusk and off at dawn or install a dusk-to-dawn sensor or light timer.

The Porch Lights at Night Program is a very inexpensive investment in personal and home security, so let’s get started tonight!!
